Chhakka Bahadur Lama

Chhakka Bahadur Lama was born in Humla into a long line of Nyingmapa Lamas. He was initiated into Lamahood as a child, but later took up formal education and received a Bachelor’s degree in law and Masters in Sociology/Anthropology from Tribhuvan University.

He involved with foreign scholars from an early age in their research on the different indigenous communities of western Nepal. He worked with western media companies in producing documentaries such as The Magic Mountain, Dragon Bride, In Search of Zhang Zhung and In Search of Shangrila. He is also an author of a book entitled, “Kailash Mandala.”

He was the vice-Chairman of Remote Area Development Committee, under the Local Development Ministry, Nepal Government. Recently he was awarded Province-Level Talent Award (Culture Category) for his contribution in the field of cultural research.
